When considering fire safety measures, prevention is better than cure. Whether you're at home, at work or outside your home, we want to help you keep safe from fire.

Always remember, if fire breaks out - get out, stay out and call 999 - don't try to fight a fire yourself.

We're offering free home fire safety visits to vulnerable people in London with our Be Safe & Sound campaign. We'll also be installing free 10-year smoke alarms where needed.

Fire safety enforcement should be fair and open, so we have published our enforcement policy statement [ PDF 90kb] so that individuals and businesses can understand what happens when premises do not comply with fire safety legislation. The policy sets out how we will apply the principles of good enforcement as set out in the Government's Enforcement Concordat which the Brigade has adopted.

Concerned about a fire risk?

If you're concerned about a fire risk which may be a danger to life you should telephone or visit your local fire and community safety centre during normal office hours, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Outside these hours, call 999.

These risks may have serious implications and are dealt with quickly and in confidence by us. A 'risk to life' could include a disregard to fire safety practices, for example, blocked or locked fire exits.
