| About Wimbledon Fire Station |
As with all London Fire Brigade stations we operate a 4 on 4 off system with Red, White, Blue and Green watches (shifts).
We currently work 2 x 9 hour day duties and 2 x 15 hour night duties finishing at 9am on our first day off.
As with all shift patterns it has its advantages and disadvantages, the best being obviously days off when the shops are empty and the worst shifts being the bank holidays, Christmas Easter New Year etc when family and friends are all off and you're still working.
All watches have their own opinion of which watch is the best the same as which station is the best, some inter station sports competitions try to assist this competitive streak but as with all sports, all winners loose at some point. :-)
One of the Firefighters favourite sports has to be volleyball. It used to be played by every station, these days due to health & safety issues or yard sizes it seems to be on the decline. It's a great way for all members of a team to let of steam and get fit at the same time.
The London Fire Brigade has a wealth of sports and social clubs, ranging from Scuba diving, walking, running, cannoeing and even a parachute club. All these clubs are run by the firefighters for the firefighters and as such are a great way to meet and become friends with like minded people.
